Caltex Sembawang Gas Station
Caltex was created in 1936 as a joint venture between Standard Oil Co. of California and the Texas Co., with each having equal ownership. The brand has operated in Asia, Africa and the Middle East as a committed energy provider ever since.
The Caltex brand is now managed from Singapore where all brand and marketing strategies and initiatives are developed and introduced to its operating regions.
In Singapore, Caltex was built from a company called Texas Company (China) Ltd, which was established in the Lion City in 1933. The Singapore business was renamed Caltex in the 1950s.
In 1979, Caltex acquired a one-third interest in Singapore Refining Co. Pte. Ltd. (SRC), which operates a 285,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Singapore. Caltex’s interest in SRC was increased to 50 percent in 2004.
At the same time, Caltex was growing and expanded across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Since its inception nearly 70 years ago, Caltex has grown tremendously and now operates in more than 60 countries in those three regions.
In the 1990s, Caltex consolidated its position as a strong regional brand, with many refineries being upgraded, alongside major revamps for its brand image and service stations. In 1999, Caltex moved its operating headquarters to Singapore from the US and shifted operations from a geographic to a functional organisation in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Caltex was the first Fortune 500 company to receive Global Headquarters status from Singapore’s Economic Development Board.
With the merger of Chevron and Texaco in October 2001, Caltex became part of the ChevronTexaco family. In a move to present a clear, strong and unified presence in the global marketplace, ChevronTexaco Corporation changed its name to Chevron Corporation in May 2005. Chevron Corporation is one of the world's leading energy companies. With more than 53,000 employees, Chevron subsidiaries conduct business around the world, producing and transporting crude oil and natural gas, refining, marketing and distributing fuels and other energy products. The Caltex brand is marketed in nearly 60 of the 180 countries Chevron operates within.
Chevron’s commitment to the Caltex brand and all that it stands for continues as the brand is a highly valued company asset.
